Shut and Bar the Door

Celeste Theatre recently competed in the UIL One Act Play competition at Grayson County College in Denison, Texas. They performed "Shut and Bar the Door" by Tom Gary. The play is based on an old English ballad. Set in Marry Old England in the 13th Century, Lenore, a peasant housewife, and her husband John, a shepherd, have an argument about who should shut and bar the door. The argument escalates into a challenge of silence until one of them agrees to shut and bar the door. In the meantime, their humble cottage is visited by an assortment of villains and do-gooders who are eager to force them to speak, but who will be the first to speak and ultimately win the battle of the sexes?
