Celeste Junior High School

Veterans Day Assembly
November 11, 2009

Celeste Junior High School honored local veterans with a Veterans Day Assembly on November 11, 2009.  The students and faculty decorated a Wall of Honor which listed names of veterans with their branch of service who are in some way connected to citizens in and around the community.  Members of the Celeste Junior High School Student Council greeted guests and conducted the assembly.  The assembly began with a beautiful performance of the National Anthem sung by student council officer, Abby Collida.  Student council president, Alyson Burke, read the Veterans Day Proclamation.  A lovely rendition of “God Bless the USA” was sung by Celeste High School junior, Kristie Patterson.  Sarah Myers, class representative, read the poem “Veterans Day” by Cheryl Dyson.  United States Army Sergeant Major Joseph Joie was the guest speaker.  He spoke to the crowd about his experiences in Iraq, and he stressed how important American support was for soldiers.  He emphasized how notes of appreciation and care packages sent to the soldiers help lift spirits and build morale which is crucial for our troops.  Following the address given by Sergeant Major Joie, veterans and guests grew somber with a moment of silence in recognition of fallen soldiers.  The assembly concluded with a reception for veterans and guests.  Refreshments were served by the student council.
