CHS Names Valedictorian and Salutatorian

By Nancy Longino

This year, 2 students with outstanding academic credentials are being recognized at the high school commencement exercises in May, as valedictorian and salutatorian.

The senior with the highest GPA (Grade Point Average) based on a 4.0 scale was selected valedictorian and the senior with the second highest GPA was chosen salutatorian.  Beginning seven years ago, the state mandated that class rank be determined on a 4.0 GPA scale.

These students have shown themselves to be exemplary students and we commend them for maintaining such high academic standards during their educational career and we thank them for being outstanding role models for other students.

Valedictorian, Trey Trentham, is 18 years old and has attended Celeste schools for thirteen years.  Trey is the son of Frank and Stacy Trentham, and plans to attend The University of Texas at Arlington to study pre-med.  He aspires to become a plastic surgeon.

Salutatorian, Rebecca Claxton, is 18 years old and has also attended Celeste schools for thirteen years.  Rebecca is the daughter of Roger and Kathryn Claxton, and plans to attend UT Tyler in the fall to study education.  She aspires to become a teacher.
