Epitaphs & Obituaries

The sixth, seventh and eighth grade Reading and English classes of Ms. Peak and Mrs. Hicks at Celeste Junior High, took a field trip to Lee Cemetery in Leonard, Texas on Monday, October 23.  The classes studied the history of the famous feud that took place at the cemetery and talked about the book Murder at the Corners.  The students went on a scavenger hunt and did tombstone rubs while they were there.  Mrs. Hicks' English class wrote epitaph poetry and created a tombstone to display their personal epitaph.  Ms. Peak's students wrote a fictional obituary over the tombstone rubbing made at the cemetery.
