Trenton girls rally to defeat Celeste, 56-43

Trenton -- The Celeste Lady Blue Devils got 11 points out of Dani Harelson in the first half and led 24-14 at the break, but Trenton's Hillary Baugh finished with a game-high 27 points to lead the Lady Tigers to a 56-43 district win.  Both teams are now 1-1 in district play.

Inspired play by Baugh, Kelcey Haden and Brianna Hart helped Trenton trim the Celeste advantage to 31-28 going into the fourth quarter.

Haden sliced into the lane for a lay-up to make it a one-point game.  Hart came up with a key steal and Baugh connected at the other end to give Trenton a 32-31 edge.

Celeste looked to Harelson and she answered with a trey to put the Lady Blue Devils back on top.  Trenton failed to score and Harelson drove inside for a bank shot that gave Celeste a 36-32 lead.  Teammate Alesha Evans went straight to the hoop for two points on the Lady Blue Devils' next possession and suddenly it was a 38-32 Celeste advantage.

Baugh put up the contest's next six points to allow the Lady Tigers to tie the game.  Baugh banked in two points on a short jumper, drove through the Celeste defense for a lay-up and then hit both ends of a one-and-one to knot the score, 38-38.  Hart, Trenton's sharpshooting freshman, drained a short jumper on the next trip down the court to complete an eight-point run by the Lady Tigers.

Celeste tied the game 40-40 when Harelson netted a pair of free throws with 4:00 left to play.

Baugh dropped in a free throw to put the Lady Tigers up 41-40.  An inbounds play to Baugh worked just like it was drawn up and she powered up for the basket and ensuing free throw.  Trenton stretched their advantage to 46-40 when Baugh nailed a jumper in the lane.  Alicia Wilbanks got in on the action by driving inside and putting in two points off the glass.

Haden hit four consecutive free throws down the stretch and Trenton earned a 56-43 win.

Hillary Baugh finished with a game-high 27 points, Kelcey Haden put up 13 points, Brianna Hart dropped in eight points, Kayla Robinson had four points and Alicia Wilbanks tossed in two points.

Dani Harelson led Celeste with 20 points and Alesha Evans scored 11.
